Silverstone, England – The Walter Hayes Trophy is how we, as well as 88 other drivers capped off our Formula Ford season. With all 88 drivers wanting to end the season by winning the largest race of the season, both the size and caliber of the event would prove to be our toughest challenge yet. The PWR1 team would come in full force, with extra hands on deck, and a new driver, Connor Willis, who competed in two United Formula Ford rounds in 2024. Having a teammate to compare data, share setup, and strategize with, was an absolute necessity for both of us as we took on this event.

The week saw three days of testing where we set up the car, and found out where we stood compared to the competition. Some notable casualties included two radiators and our main engine over the course of the three day testing program, but the team was quick to get on top of the issues and resolve any remaining gremlins.

Saturday saw qualifying in the morning, where we qualified 5th in our group, and our Heat in the afternoon. Starting 5th in my heat I made a mistake on the opening lap and lost a few positions putting me back to 9th. However, over the course of the 7 remaining laps I was able to fight my way back to 6th, holding the fastest lap for the majority of the race.

On Sunday we began with the Semi-Final, where the starting position was dictated by my finishing position in the heat. I started in 12th, and after fierce battling, I was able to move myself up to 9th. The Grand Final began late in the afternoon where, if it were there, the sun would be setting over the circuit. I had a great start, however very quickly my car began to overheat, and my race went from focusing on moving forward to holding on to any positions I could. After 15 laps of racing in my mirrors, I was able to bring the car home in 19th.

The final race of the season is always bittersweet. At the end of the race weekend the team solemnly packs up and says their goodbyes, knowing that everyone will be moving their separate ways for the next year. I am extremely grateful and proud Phill and the rest of my team not just for this weekend but for the entire season. And I look forward to continuing on to next year.

See you at the track,

Jason
