Heading Into the Summer Break

Jason and ADM finished up rounds 7-9 at Oulton Park last weekend, and while it was not entirely what they hoped for in terms of results, they have plenty of time to go over it as they head into summer break.

Oulton Park, known for being one of the last of its kind in terms of circuits, also holds a reputation for weather. As GB4 geared up to tackle this circuit, the weather was also preparing to make this a weekend to remember. The weekend began with Qualifying, and after 15 minutes of flat out pace, Jason qualified 14th, after missing the tire window due to traffic. As race 1 neared time, grey clouds began to roll in, sending light sprinkles down on the surface. While precipitating, the team made the call to go on dry tires, trusting the weather apps and the teams in front. However soon after the race began, it was clear the track was not meant for slicks. Multiple cars started on wets behind Jason, relegating him to 19th at the line.

After a day off, the team set up for Races 2 and 3 on Monday. For Race 2, they made the correct call, and trusted the rain would not get worse. After gaining positions off the line, and making it up to 9th, Jason lost out on some late race battles, ending in P12. As Race 3 rolled around, the team was confident with their decision the race before. With the skies looking similar, they once again went with slicks, as did 18 other cars. However on the green flag lap, it started raining harder, and Jason, along with all 18 slick starters pitted, opting to start from the pit lane. Unfortunately, the track dried fast, and the resulting race was a melee of cars on overheating wet tires, fighting for position all through the field. After finding himself pushed off the track a few times, Jason ended the race in 17th, marking this a weekend to forget, but also one to remember.

The summer break is only a break in the official calendar. Jason will be taking this time to recoup and get some testing in, while looking onward to the next round at Snetterton in six weeks.
