New Car, Back in America

With an Unexpected Addition to the Schedule, Hear Some Words From Jason About being back home

With a 6 week long break between Brands Hatch and our final round at Donington Park, there is a lot of space to think about racing, but not much racing to be had. Luckily, in perfect timing, Peter Dempsey, who ran me in my first ever USF 2000 test had a seat open in USF Pro 2000 and gave me a chance to drive a new car for the first time. This also meant heading back to America for the first time in many months, and what better place to visit than Road America!

With 285 HP at only 1325lbs, the USF Pro is the fastest car I had ever driven, with cornering speeds comparable to IndyCar in some places. It was a perfect test to see my growth over the past year in GB4, as well as my physical ability.

The first day was all learning and finding my groove on a track I haven’t driven in two and a half years, in a car I had never driven before. While it’s a similar chassis, the brakes, tires, and aerodynamics all make it a completely different car than what I’m used to. But I took to it quickly, and saw rapid progress over the four sessions of day one.

Day two was meant for speed, and we found lots. After getting comfortable in the car it was time for some qualifying simulations. Learning the aspects of this new tire took time, and even in the optimal conditions of the morning session I wasn’t able to maximize the performance. However, after one more new tire run, I was able to match times against drivers who had a full season in the car.

While I was driving at Road America, my dad was making the most of our partnership with Wings and Wheels, watching the IMSA Indy 6hr from their Turn 2 suite. Thanks to them for taking care of him while we’re both working hard at the race track.

Now the final round of GB4 is in only one week! We’re looking forward to it, and we know we can come into the weekend strong. Look out for our prerace newsletter, and mark your schedules!
